1. Leather
Being attentive to the kind of leather is absolutely important as this may vary dramatically. Some are very thick, thin, hard, super soft, shiny, suede or have a texture and many of these details play a role in how it will sits, wear and eventually its versatility. Going for a leather which has a subtle texture means that the jacket will wear well as time passes. Leather naturally creases, softens, gets scratched and fade, however the right leather will need all of this in its stride to build the type of the jacket.
2. Length
Choosing whether to buy a cropped jackets for women or the one which ends on the hips can be tricky. With experience, I could argue you will need one of both, but if you will pick just one single it really does rely upon the body shape and what you would like to mainly style it with. If you’re buying a leather jacket to utilize dresses a cropped jacket is actually flattering, but if you need to wear them with jeans then your longer length is most effective.
3. Hardware
Make sure to check the color of the hardware. A mistake here might lead to a perfect leather jacket to be left sitting in the wardrobe since it doesn’t work with the rest of your accessories. If you find a neutral hardware, ie black. Then you’ve found the ultimate goal. Buy it now!
4. Shoulder Alignment
The shoulders should fall into line correctly and create structure. Unless you’re choosing an oversized boyfriend style, in which particular case I’m presuming you’ve already ticked off finding the perfect leather jacket, then make sure the shoulders don’t sit too wide. If indeed they sit too narrow then you will need to up a size a because its likely you wont be able to move your arms.
5. Lapel/collar
Brands will constantly change up information on leather jackets to differentiate their designs, but nothing beats a classic lapel. Avoid anything too trendy, just like a drape, shearling or fur (unless it’s removable) or the no collar collar unless you want a far more mature style.
6. Lining
Always check to make certain it’s lined. The liner also needs to be nondescript rather than compete or clash with the jacket itself. I hate when brands insert a bright colourful lining over a perfect black jacket. WHY?
7. Back
Some back detailing can have folds that make it more biker styled while some can taper in creating a more polished shape. Neither is right or wrong, but always smart to check out the back and make sure it’s in line with what you would like.
8. Detailing
It’s all in the facts. Too many and it’ll date, inadequate and it borders on boring. Zippers, stitching and hardware can make or break your jacket choice. Just make sure it’s classic and flattering. we made one of shopping for a jacket with padding on the top arms that added extra bulk and made me appear to be a rugby player… not ideal.
